Police are hoping to get help from the public in finding some of the people responsible for Wednesday's vandalism.
Ted Passon's car is a mangled mess of shattered glass and dents. He, like thousands of other Phillies fans, was celebrating on Broad Street Wednesday night.
Drunk revelers left a path of destruction along Broad.
Marble planters were turned over, bus stop shelters destroyed, and storefront windows smashed.

happy halloween
I love Halloween. I was bummed that I didn’t get to celebrate it as festively as I wanted to this year. I was really interested in executing this awesome jack-o-latern idea (it involved the carving of a backwards B, that’s all I’m gonna say). But alas, I’ve got some time-consuming things going on right now that I will actually relate to you all tomorrow (probably).
Anyway, one of my favorite Halloween past-times is dusting off some of my old tapes, turning out the lights, and scaring myself. In the spirit of the holiday, instead of my usual smattering of psych rock and other insane music, I wanted to share some choice insane recordings.

Beatles Game Confirmed
Like this, but with computers!
T
his morning, MTV and Apple Corps confirmed pretty much exactly what everyone guessed yesterday: they're making a game that will feature the music of The Beatles. While the product in question hasn't been named specifically, it sounds like it will be a full, standalone game, and that it will be available sometime in 2009.
The Beatles are indisputably one of the most popular and influential musical acts of the 20th century, and Apple Corps has been fiercely protective of the catalog, so this is a pretty significant win for MTV and Harmonix. As one of the first big "TV bands," there's no shortage of iconic footage of the Beatles performing that could be a ton of fun to see in a game. Also, I'll be severely disappointed if there isn't a recreation of The Yellow Submarine's art style somewhere in there. As an aside, here's the five Beatles songs I'd like to see in, well, whatever the hell they end up calling this game:
Norwegian Wood
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Birthday
Helter Skelter
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
OK, so that's six. Believe me, it was hard enough to whittle that list down that far. This game's going to need a deep track list.

hillbuzz article about obama bribe for $10,000..hill buzz.
The article below is from last year. It’s a story that was never picked up by the media (since when have they ever picked up anything about Obama?) and the Clinton campaign did not know what to do with this — people we’ve spoken to said that, in retrospect, they realize what a mistake this was because what Obama did here is actually a prosecutable crime. We were told, specifically, that the bribe Obama took as a state senator is the thing David Axelrod has lived in terror of this whole campaign — he has been praying this does not get out.
One reason this never came back to bite Obama is that the article below is overly long — and the part about the bribe is buried in the middle — it’s no coincidence this story appeared in the LA Times. The article’s author, Dan Morain, tried to bring this bribe up in the primaries, but never had any support in the media to go anywhere with it.
One of the greatest advantages Obama has is that he’s surrounded by so many crooked deals, kooks, loons, and criminals that it’s hard for the public to understand most of what’s going on. Here in Chicago, Team Hillary kept trying to bring up Obama’s connections to Tony Rezko and the land deal for Obama’s Mansion — but people couldn’t understand what the Rezko dealings were all about. They still don’t understand it. And they won’t read a long article like the one below about the rest of Obama’s dirty dealings.
In short, Obama had massive campaign debt coming off of his failed bid to challenge Bobby Rush for a seat in Congress. Smarting from that loss, Obama needed money, so he turned to Yesse Yehudah. What’s so strange about this is that Yehudah is a Republican — so why would he raise money for Obama? What the article below does not say is that, magically, 10 people who work for Yehudah and have never given money to any elected official before - AND WHO COULD NOT AFFORD TO MAKE $1,000 donations - all made $1,000 donations to Obama simultaneously. As if someone else made the donations for all of them, in their names, with money that came from somewhere else.
The quid pro quo on this is simple: Obama took a $10,000 bribe from Yehudah for using his position in the state senate to throw a $75,000 grant to Yehudah’s nonprofit organization. People here in Chicago say this was obvious politics in Illinois: where Obama agreed to get Yehudah a grant, but Obama’s fee for this transaction was $10,000 to pay off his campaign debt.
Yehudah’s nonproft later came under investigation, and Obama panicked: he dumped $5,000 of the bribe money he took over to Yehudah as fast as he could after that.
Read the story below from Dan Morain. We know this one is tough because it’s not easy for most people to understand Illinois politics — but what Obama did here with this grant is illegal, and it’s the kind of things politicians in Illinois go to jail for all the time — including our last governor George Ryan, and most likely our current governor Rod Blagojevich too.
Bribes like this are what people mean when they refer to “dirty Chicago politics”

Original washington monument, presidential seal, whitehouse.com, obama

A dedication service was held at noon. The volunteers gathered for a cold lunch, and then work was resumed and continued until 4 o'clock, when the monument stood 15 feet high on a base 54 feet in circumference. The day's program ended with the reading of the Declaration of Independence, followed by a three-round salute fired from atop the tower by three Revolutionary War veterans. Plans were made to complete the tower to a height of 30 feet "after the busy season," and in the fall of that year this was done.

Oct. 30 - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama blanketed the airwaves with an unprecedented 30-minute prime-time political advertisement.
The campaign "infomercial" forced a 15-minute delay in the FOX network's broadcast of Game 5 of the World Series, and was estimated to cost nearly $1 million for each major network. Katharine Jackson reports.
Bill Clinton rallies for Obama

Oct 30 - Barack Obama and Bill Clinton make first joint campaign appearance before more than 30,000 in late-night Miami rally.
With Obama at his side, former president Clinton heaped praise on the Democratic nominee for what he said was a calm, reasoned response to the financial crisis, saying that showed he would be a good manager in the White House.
A Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll showed Obama with a 5-point national lead on McCain. A blizzard of recent national polls gave Obama a national lead ranging from 2 points to 15 points.

Federal Reserve cuts rate by 50-basis point to 1.00%...
The worst financial crisis in 70 years has forced the Federal Reserve to employ all the weapons in its arsenal — including cutting interest rates to near historic lows — to 1.25% and try to keep the country from plunging into a deep recession. A deep rate cut from the Federal Reserve and other central banks Wednesday will have little immediate impact on consumer borrowing rates, but sends a clear signal that central bankers are working together to quell an intensifying financial panic threatening the world economy.
The Fed slashed its target for short-term rates a .25 percentage point to 1.25%, the lowest in more than four years. Fed policymakers voted unanimously during an emergency meeting Tuesday night to approve the cut.
"The pace of economic activity has slowed markedly in recent months," the Fed said in a statement. "Moreover, the intensification of financial market turmoil is likely to exert additional restraint on spending, partly by further reducing the ability of households and businesses to obtain credit."
The move lowers the target for the federal funds rate, what banks charge each other for overnight loans. The rate is a benchmark used by lenders in setting rates for consumer and business loans.
Some economists said the Fed's action wasn't enough to rescue the United States from recession, but called it one of a series of drastic steps to prevent the downturn from becoming much more serious.
"The playbook to avoid depressions says rates need to be as close to zero as possible, banks have to be rescued, public spending has to rise," said Ian Shepherdson, economist at High Frequency Economics. "The U.S. is making progress on all fronts, though the economy is still condemned to immediate recession followed by a long period of slow growth."
In the short run, the Fed's action is expected to have only limited impact on borrowing costs, given that credit markets are constricted for even the worthiest of borrowers, no matter what the price.
Credit card rates are already hitting floors that are set in agreements with customers, and issuers are being cautious about who gets the benefit of the lower rates. Rates on home-equity lines of credit will fall, but many homeowners have seen their credit lines frozen or reduced, so there won't be a big boost to consumer spending, Bankrate.com senior analyst Greg McBride says.
The move will likely not have an impact on fixed-rate mortgage rates and may not help those with adjustable-rate mortgages, depending how their rates are set, McBride says. "Savers will be thrown further under the bus as their interest income declines," he says.READ THE FULLSTORY

Hang Sarah Palin Noose......

I know why Drudge has this image of an effigy of Palin hanging in a noose plastered all over his webpage. It's a very transparent attempt to suggest a double standard at work in the MSM since this hasn't garnered the attention a comparable image of a certain someone on the Democratic ticket would have. I know that. But you know what? He's right.
I think Palin has shown herself to woefully inadequate for the office she is seeking. Her policy positions are so pitiful and poorly explained that one doesn't know whether to laugh or cry when listening to her attempts to explain them. Considering Senator McCain's health history and age, her qualifications are a serious concern. However, this type of distasteful stuff has no place in our national political discourse. None. I don't find the humor or 'it's Halloween season!' arguments compelling. It's an explicit and public demonstration of the potential murder of one of the candidates for Vice Presidency. Our country has a history of political violence. As such, such public demonstrations should be denounced by all as way out of bounds. Just as there are limits on free speech such as the proverbial screaming 'fire' in a crowded theater, public demonstrations depicting violence against our political leaders should fall into the same category.
I know that there will be many on the left who don't agree with me on this but I'd put this question to them (although I know this is the reason Drudge is trying to make this an issue, it doesn't mean he isn't right on this one): would you feel the same if it was Senator Obama?
As a further example, I felt the same way when some of the more extreme anti-war folks were doing violent acts to effigies of Bush and Cheney.
I think one of the biggest lessons of this political campaign has been the necessity to elevate our level of political discourse in this country. I think placing such things outside the bounds of acceptable discourse would be a proper step in that direction.
I'm sure there are many who will strongly disagree with me and I would welcome your comments since I think it's an important topic to discuss. Considering the history of actual violence against political figures in our country I think it very reasonable to set firm boundaries on the depiction of fictional violence against them and the concept of double standards simply shouldn't play any role in that determination at all.
Liberal Faggots Hang Sarah Palin Noose!..palin noose, palin whack job

Unlike the network morning news shows, the Sarah Palin hanging in effigy was covered by, surprisingly, "The View." On the October 28 edition, the panel, as they should be, was unanimous in condemning inflammatory Halloween decoration. The best remark came from, yet another surprise, Joy Behar. Hinting at media double standards Behar cried "if they had done it to Obama, it would cause a tremendous hoopla."
Behar, who normally attempts to play the equivocation game, offered no such attempt on this subject adding "as much as I disagree with her politics, it’s outrageous. It’s stupid." The others chimed in as well as Whoopi Goldberg asserted "you just don’t do that." Sherri Shepherd raised concerns about Sarah Palin’s children. Elisabeth Hasselbeck declared "it’s not even worth hearing what [the house owner] has to say."

Silva Claims Victory Following Cote Injury

It was difficult to watch Silva get knocked unconcious for two consecutive fights. I've been a fan of "The Axe Murderer" for the last four years or so. What won me over is Silva's willingness to put it all on the line each time he entered the ring. Sure, his aggressive style is exciting to watch, but it's his courage in the ring that separates him from other top strikers like Mirko "Cro Cop" and Chuck Liddell, both known for folding like chairs when faced with adversity in the ring and switching to "survival mode." When Chuck Liddell was getting outpunched and outmuscled by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Liddell resigned to just laying on the canvas and taking a beating without offering anything in return until the referee stopped the fight. When the one-trick-pony, Mirko Filipovic realized that his high kick wasn't going to do him any good against Fedor Emelianenko, he resorted to running and surviving. Survival for the sake of survival is never part of Silva's fight plan. He will seek to destroy or get destroyed himself in the process. Many times there comes a point in a fight where one of the combatants realizes he can't win or his opponent is too strong for him. Once they reach that conclusion their whole demeanor changes and they start fighting to not get knocked out instead of fighting to win. Silva always fights to win. He could've chosen to run around the ring against Cro Cop, especially after his eye was shut. Instead he threw caution at the wind and got knocked out.
Nobody ever accused Dan Henderson of being a bad fighter. He's probably one of the most underrated and he proved this past Saturday that he belongs at the very top. Several factors were involved in Silva's destruction at the hands of Dan Henderson. First of all, Henderson has greatly improved in the last five years and has become craftier. Secondly, Henderson is hungry and is probably in his prime. Finally, Silva is past his prime and definitely not as sharp as he once was. But after watching the replays of the fight, it finally dawned on me that under the rules of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Silva's greatest weapons are not allowed; knees to the head of an opponent on all fours, and kicks to the head of a downed opponent. On one particular occasion Silva was sprawled over Henderson, in perfect position to land his vicious knees on the top of Henderson's head. Had Silva been allowed to throw knees at that moment, the fight without a doubt, would've ended differently, with Silva being the winner. Of course, with the way Silva fought during the first two rounds, it would be easy to dismiss the knee factor. To be fair, Dan Henderson was having his way. But it doesn't change the fact that Silva was handicapped in that fight. Silva's knee strikes towards his opponent's head on all fours, has been Silva's most lethal arsenal. His knees strikes in that position are legendary. Taking that away from Silva will be the equivalent of not allowing Dan Henderson to throw punches in the standup position.
Sadly, the records will still show that Henderson KO'd Silva. It will not mention the handicap that Silva was fighting with. Henderson fans will not care. Rules are rules, that's all there is to it. But the fact will remain that Henderson's victory was not against the real Wanderlei Silva, who would've easily knocked him out had knees on the ground been allowed.

Ashley Todd Fake "Mutilation" Exposed

Police say a campaign volunteer confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter B in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
At a news conference this afternoon, officials said they believe that Ashley Todd's injuries were self-inflicted.
Todd, 20, of Texas, is now facing charges for filing a false report to police.
Todd initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.
Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.
Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.
Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and "the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction."
This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.
PNC to buy ailing National City for $5.6 billion...

PNC projects that the deal, to be completed by the end of this year, would generate a 15 percent rate of return and boost per-share results in its second year. The bank will incur $2.3 billion in merger costs and $1.2 billion in other expenses.
National City branches will assume the PNC name. The company headquarters will remain in Pittsburgh.
During a conference call Friday, PNC Chief Executive James Rohr told analysts the bank expects to record $19.9 billion in write-downs on National City loans. PNC may also consider issuing $1 billion in common equity "in the foreseeable future," but only after speaking with top shareholders.
National City posted a $729 million quarterly loss earlier this week. Its chief executive, Peter Raskind, told Reuters on Tuesday that the economic environment "probably gets worse before it gets better."
Raskind will join the combined bank's board, along with one other National City director.
PNC's Rohr said Treasury's offer to inject capital made the deal for National City attractive. With the new funds, the combined company's Tier 1 capital ratio would be a healthy 10 percent.
PNC faced competition for National City, Rohr said, adding that the bank had scrutinized a deal with National City "for quite some time," he said. He declined to say whether Treasury forced PNC to acquire its weaker rival.
Typically bank mergers trigger antitrust provisions that require branch and business sales, but Rohr said concentration issues exist in less than 3 percent of the combined deposit base. Currently, the two banks combined have $180 billion in deposits.
Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase & Co, and Sandler O'Neill advised PNC, while Goldman Sachs advised National City.

The glow-in-the-dark cat is the result of a genetic experiment gone right, not awry; he was cloned at the Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans to aid endangered species ... and down the line, humans as well.
The phosphorescent feline made his national television debut on TODAY Thursday. The studio went dark and Mr. Green Genes’ ears, nose and eyes glowed under an ultraviolet light.

Hot Lisa Ann Is Nailin Palin,
Some are calling her “the hottest candidate ever” – and with Sarah Palin’s bikini-donning, gun-toting and hockey-dropping antics revving-up red-blooded red state voters, it's no surprise that porn sleaze king Larry Flynt wants to capitalise on her sex appeal. The latest release from his x-rated movie empire, Who’s Nailin Paylin?, features VP look-a-like, Lisa Ann, with Flynt setting the scenario of a housebound Palin taking visit from two Russian soliders – a not-so-subtle dig at her proclaimed Alaskan proximity to the Russian zenith.
No stranger to bad taste, Flynt’s porno exploitation also takes a dig at Palin’s creationist beliefs, featuring a flashback scene in which a professor explains “a ‘big bang’ theory even she can’t deny!”We’re just hoping Mr Flynt doesn’t decide to take a shine to John McCain’s sexual potential – there wouldn’t be enough bleach in the world to clean the eyes. However it would be interesting to hear if the soundtrack, when it kicks in, has a merging of Sergei Prokofiev's Russian classics with smooth funk-wah jazz.
Who’s Nailin’ Palin ?

'Palin' Parody
The movie everyone’s been talking about…and you may be asking yourself, “Did Video really shoot a parody of Sarah Palin?” You betcha!
Directed by Jerome Tanner, Who’s Nailin’ Paylin? will feature five hardcore scenes, including two threeways starring Lisa Ann, the supersexy MILF Sarah Palin look-alike.
The response to Who's Nailin' Paylin? has been tremendous. We're having our work over time responding to everyones questions and comments.

Obama fundraiser, convicted of fraud, spills beans

CHICAGO - Jailed political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko, the Chicago real estate developer who helped launch Barack Obama on his political career, is whispering secrets to federal prosecutors about corruption in Illinois and the political fallout could be explosive.
Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich, whose administration faces multiple federal investigations over how it handed out jobs and money with advice from Rezko, is considered the most vulnerable.
Rezko also was friendly with Obama — offering him a job when he finished law school, funding his earliest political campaigns and purchasing a lot next to his house. But based on the known facts, charges so far and testimony at Rezko's trial, there's no indication there'll be an October surprise that could hurt the Democratic presidential nominee — even though Rezko says prosecutors are pressing him for dirt about Obama.
"I think this strikes fear into the Blagojevich administration and the Statehouse Democrats but not into the Obama campaign," says state Sen. Kirk Dillard, R-Westmont, a John McCain delegate to the GOP convention but an old friend of Obama.
Rezko, 53, a real estate developer, was convicted in June of scheming to use his clout with the Blagojevich administration to squeeze $7 million in kickbacks out of a contractor and seven money management firms seeking to do business with the state.
Within two months, Rezko was seen in U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald's office, along with his attorneys.
There has been no official confirmation that Rezko is talking but his sentencing has been postponed indefinitely and both sides say they are going to "engage in discussions that could affect their sentencing postures."
"They never would have delayed the sentencing if he weren't talking — it's proof positive," said Jay Stewart, executive director of the Better Government Association of Chicago.
In addition, attorneys say federal investigators have been questioning Blagojevich contributions around the state using information that only Rezko could have supplied. Finally, courthouse personnel requesting anonymity because grand jury probes are secret said Rezko has been repeatedly brought from his cell to the U.S. attorney's office to talk to prosecutors.
Rezko could have a lot to tell. He has raised millions of dollars in campaign money for many Illinois politicians and according to federal prosecutors used his clout to control appointments to state boards.
Obama has sent to charity $159,000 that Rezko raised for his campaigns for the state legislature, the House and the Senate. Rezko raised nothing for Obama's White House run.
Obama's name came up in testimony at the trial four times, twice in connection with an obscure legislative memo, as a guest at a Rezko party and when defense attorney Joseph Duffy told jurors his client was a friend of the senator.
None of the witnesses accused the Democratic nominee for president of doing anything improper.
But questions concerning Obama's relationship with Rezko linger, particularly over Rezko's role in the purchase of the Obamas' home.
The two have known each other for years, starting when Rezko offered Obama a job after he graduated from Harvard Law School in 1991. Obama didn't take it, but a friendship developed.
The men talked politics frequently and occasionally dined together with their wives.
In 2005, the Obamas paid $1.65 million for their home near the University of Chicago. The sellers wanted a parcel they owned next door to sell on the same day, and Rezko's wife, Rita, was the buyer. At the request of the Obamas, Mrs. Rezko later sold them a 10-foot strip of land to enlarge their lot. They paid $104,500.
The deal took place while Rezko was under investigation and when details of the cozy relationship surfaced, Obama said it was a "bonehead" error to have asked for the additional land because it looked like he was getting a favor.
"I regret it," Obama said at the time. "I'm going to make sure that from this point on I don't even come close to the line."
McCain and vice running mate Sarah Palin have mentioned Rezko little if at all. But Republicans have aired a television ad focusing on Rezko. And McCain aides have repeatedly tweaked their opponent over the real estate deal in e-mails to reporters.
"We're delighted to have a debate on judgment with Barack Obama, who bought his million-dollar mansion in a shady deal with a convicted felon," McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said in August.
Blagojevich, meanwhile, got a black eye from the trial.
One witness testified that Blagojevich talked about hiring him for a major state job while his $25,000 donation to the governor's campaign fund was lying on the table.
Two attorneys testified that Blagojevich hinted that they could get lucrative state contracts if they raised money — possibly for a future White House campaign.
Obama's name has not surfaced in accounts of the investigation since the trial. But Rezko himself raised it in a letter to the judge months ago.
"Your Honor, the prosecutors have been overzealous in pursuing a crime that never happened," he wrote. "They are pressuring me to tell them the wrong things that I supposedly know about Gov. Blagojevich and Sen. Barack Obama."

Palin pre-empts state report, clears self in probe

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sworn to secrecy, Alaska lawmakers have begun reviewing a lengthy and politically sensitive investigative report focusing on whether Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her authority as governor.
The first-term Alaska governor has been accused of firing a state commissioner to settle a family dispute. But the report is also expected to touch on whether Palin's husband meddled in state affairs and whether her administration inappropriately accessed employee medical records.
The inquiry, approved by a legislative committee's bipartisan vote, began before Republican presidential nominee John McCain named Palin his running mate. Since then, the case has been dogged by accusations of political influence.
The investigation focuses on her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan. Monegan says Palin and her husband pressured him to fire Mike Wooten, a state trooper involved in a nasty divorce and custody dispute with the governor's sister. When Monegan resisted, he says, he was fired.
Palin's critics say that shows she used her office to settle family affairs.
"When you're the governor, you leave your household hat at home and you become governor," said state Senate President Lyda Green, a Republican who has frequently clashed with Palin.
At their meeting Friday, lawmakers planned to vote to release the estimated 300-page report and some of the 1,000 or more pages of supporting documents. The 14-member legislative panel could recommend that the case be closed, that another committee continue to investigate, or that the matter be referred to criminal investigators.
In an effort to head off the report, McCain campaign spokesman Taylor Griffin released the campaign's own version of events. That report, which Griffin said was written by campaign staffers, says the Legislature has taken a legitimate policy dispute between a governor and one of her commissioners, and portrayed it as something inappropriate.
"The following document will prove Walt Monegan's dismissal was a result of his insubordination and budgetary clashes with Governor Palin and her administration," campaign officials wrote. "Trooper Wooten is a separate issue."
Monegan had not seen the closely held report Thursday night and said he did not know what to expect.
"I just hope that the truth is figured out," Monegan said in a telephone interview Thursday. "That the governor did want me to fire him, and I chose to not. You just can't walk up to someone and say, 'I fire you.' He didn't do anything under my watch to result in termination."
The report is also expected to focus on Palin's husband, Todd, who had extraordinary access to the governor's office and her top aides. Todd acknowledges calling and meeting over the course of many months with numerous senior government officials about Wooten, whom he described as a dangerous and unstable man who had threatened his family.
One of those meetings, Monegan said, occurred in the governor's office. Green said that raised questions of impropriety and that, ultimately, the governor is responsible.
"He shouldn't be sitting in the governor's office and making phone calls if he's going to be pushing his agenda," she said. "Everything's on her."
Steve Branchflower, a retired prosecutor hired by the Legislature, is also investigating whether anyone in the Palin administration pressured auditors to deny Wooten's disability claim. He had claimed he hurt his back moving a body bag, but Todd Palin later said he documented and took photos of Wooten riding a snowmobile that cast suspicion on his injury.
Republican state Rep. John Coghill, a member of the committee, said he would try to keep the discussion focused on the what legislators set out to investigate: Monegan's firing.
"It wasn't supposed to look into the whole administration team. It was supposed to look at the governor," he said before reading the report. "This is about the integrity of the legislative process."
Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, said he had not received a copy of the report. Over the past few days, Van Flein has released affidavits and other documents that Palin's husband and aides provided to investigators. That rankled some lawmakers but Van Flein said he wanted to make sure Branchflower's report didn't take anything out of context.
"Whenever anyone writes their own report, they're filtering their data. And if you've already drawn your conclusion, you tend to filter it in a way to support that conclusion," he said.
Palin's allies have accused the committee of having already drawn their conclusion. They cited comments by Democratic state Sen. Hollis French, who said the investigation could provide an "October surprise" for McCain.

McCain, Obama call for greater bank security

WASHINGTON - Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain worked to cool the partisan heat of the financial crisis, with both calling for Congress to regroup and act quickly to prevent a feared financial collapse and foster confidence in the banking system. ADVERTISEMENT
The stock market embraced the new tenor, rocketing upward nearly 500 points on Tuesday, but nearly frozen credit markets — where businesses turn to raise money — showed no sign of a thaw.
Not since Franklin D. Roosevelt was voted into the White House in the depths of the 1930s Great Depression have presidential hopefuls found themselves in such uncertain economic times and under so much pressure to assure voters they are best able to prevent a feared financial meltdown.
Republican McCain and Democrat Obama both said Tuesday that politicians needed to set aside politics to save the financial system. Together, they backed a call to raise the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. guarantee on bank accounts from a limit of $100,000 to $250,000.
FDIC Chairwoman Sheila Bair took up the proposal Tuesday afternoon, asking Congress for authority for an unspecified increase in insurance limits. She said most banks remained sound but contended that increasing the insurance cap would help ease the crisis of confidence.
The Dow Jones industrial average shot up 485 points, reclaiming nearly two-thirds of its staggering 778-point nosedive a day earlier.
The country's already reeling financial sector showed signs of coming unglued Monday when the House, contrary to expectations, rejected a $700 billion Bush administration rescue plan. President Bush had sent the measure to Capitol Hill 11 days earlier, declaring fast action essential.
After a raucous session in which Republican and Democratic lawmakers tried to blame one another for the rejection, it appeared the House would go back into session late Thursday or Friday to take another run at the bailout plan.
The Senate was scheduled to vote on the plan Wednesday evening, and McCain, Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, were returning to Washington for the vote.
Obama warned it would be "catastrophic" if a deal isn't reached soon and said Congress should work on the bill it rejected.
"Given the progress we have made, I believe we are unlikely to succeed if we start from scratch or reopen negotiations about the core elements of the agreement," the Illinois senator said in a statement. "But in order to pass this plan, we must do more."
McCain, whose own Republicans were largely responsible for sinking the bill, acknowledged that lawmakers had failed to convince voters that the deal was urgent.
Both said the time for blame had passed and action was needed urgently.
Obama told about 12,000 people at a rally at the University of Nevada at Reno that the crisis "affects the financial well-being of every single American. There will be time to punish those who set this fire, but now is the moment for us to come together and put the fire out."
McCain concurred in an interview on MSNBC.
"So we've got to act and we've got to act — and I'm confident we will — we will pass legislation because we have to do it. And that's — the important thing now is bipartisanship. Sit down and work together. That's what I want to do, and that's what I'm committed to do," the four-term Arizona senator said.
Campaign tries to explain Palin's Putin comment

Gov. Sarah Palin cites vigilance against Russian warplanes coming into U.S. airspace over Alaska as one of her foreign policy credentials. But the U.S. military command in charge says that hasn't happened in her 21 months in office.
"When you consider even national security issues with Russia, as (Prime Minister Vladimir) Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where — where do they go? It's Alaska," the Republican vice presidential nominee said in an interview last week with CBS News' Katie Couric.
The spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, Maria Comella, clarified in an e-mail to The Associated Press that when "Russian incursions near Alaskan airspace and inside the air defense identification zone have occurred ... U.S. Air Force fighters have been scrambled repeatedly."
The air defense identification zone, almost completely over water, extends 12-mile past the perimeter of the United States. Most nations have similar areas.
However, no Russian military planes have been flying even into that zone, said Maj. Allen Herritage, a spokesman for the Alaska region of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, at Elmendorf Air Force Base.
"To be very clear, there has not been any incursion in U.S. airspace in recent years," Herritage said.
What Palin might have been referring to was a buffer zone of airspace that extends beyond the 12-mile strip. Although not recognized internationally as America's to protect, the military watches it.
That zone is where there has been increased Russian bomber exercises — about 20 incidents in the last two years. When Russian bombers enter that expanded area, sometimes called the outer air defense identification zone by the military, U.S. or Canadian fighter jets are dispatched to check them, Herritage said.
Asked about Herritage's statement, Palin's foreign policy adviser, Steve Biegun, insisted the candidate's position was correct. Russia's "old behaviors" of aggressively flying into U.S. airspace have been exhibited recently, he said.
"Governor Palin told me that when Russian aircraft buzz American airspace and U.S. aircraft are mobilized at Elmendorf Air Force Base, she is informed by her National Guard commander," said Biegun, who did not offer any additional explanation for the contradiction.
"The point she was making is that the geographical location of Alaska has unique attributes. This doesn't happen to many states in the union," Biegun said. "Her point was that she's pretty up close to some of the big issues of international affairs."
Herritage said Air Force officials discussed with Palin instances of Russian planes entering the buffer zone and the U.S. response during their annual statehouse briefing in February.
It could not immediately be determined how many times Palin had been notified in real time of Russian planes having entered the buffer zone. Major General Craig E. Campbell, the adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, did not immediately return calls and e-mails.
